Put on Your Dancing Shoes!

In a series of 2 string workshops, Principal Second Laura Andrews looks forward to unpacking the four lively movements of Holst's "St. Paul's Suite" which he composed for the girls' school where he taught music. The four movements of this beloved, renowned string work represent fun, energetic dances showcasing British folk tunes.

Dust off those instrumental cobwebs, rosin your bows, and put on your dance shoes! We will begin each workshop at 7:00 with an initially-divided sectional (Laura with both violin sections) and principal cellist Rachel Hook on a separate zoom meeting with the lower strings (viola, cello, bass). Then around 7:30, the lower strings can call into Laura's separate zoom seminar to join the violins.

Three Composers You Should Know (But Probably Never Heard Of)!

Join CSO Music Director Josh Aerie on a journey to discover three little-known, under-performed, and under-represented master composers. From the Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary eras respectively, José Maurício Nunes Garcia, Ethyel Smith, and Jennifer Higdon each rose to prominence in a white-male, Eurocentric, and heterocentric-dominated art form, despite “outsider” status due to their gender, race, and sexual identity. We’ll hear examples of their music and learn about their lives, struggles, and triumphs. Join us!
