Join the CSO for the Season Opener. Maestro McClain’s debut as the new music director of the CSO will be a Sibelius celebration with two works by the composer. Finlandia is one of Jean Sibelius’ most celebrated works. It will feature the powerful brass section of the CSO and includes a melody so beloved by the Finish people that it became the unofficial national anthem. We are also pleased to welcome back to the stage concertmaster and principal 2 nd violinist Phil Palermo and Laura Andrews who will present J. S. Bach’s Concerto for two violins. We will then conclude with the finale to Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No.2 which received its United States premiere in 1904. This magnificent yet unconventional work of increasing power and majesty was a great triumph for Sibelius. Greetings to Finland from Columbus!
